There are many techniques that can be used to make a general outline, but the most important thing is to make a rough outline that you can turn into a more structured outline later on.The first important step is to make a research plan. This should include all of the information you are going to need to write a specific paper. It will also include your objectives. You should have a specific length and topic that you have chosen to work on.With your outline in place, it is time to write down a detailed timeline of the steps you need to take in order to complete your research. You should be able to outline your entire process including when to schedule your own exams, when to do the prep work, when to choose a tutor or where to find help from a book or online, etc.Once you have all of this in place, it is time to put your outline into the form of a chart or other type of format. This can be done by taking a piece of paper and writing out your outline and putting it down on the page in a vertical column style.If you have an outline in a table format, it will be very difficult to memorize it as you will have to flip through the paper to read it all the way across to your notes. With a chart, you can just read the part you need at a time to remember it, so you won't forget a thing. This is another reason why outlines are a good tool to use.With an outline in hand, you will know exactly how long each section of your paper is going to take. This is important because you will have time to go over your notes and other documents.
